Installation questions, connection errors, and the things that can trip up a returning adventurer.
Where do I download the game?
Use the official Square Enix download page. Save all five parts in one folder, run part 1 to extract them, then launch FFXISetup.exe. A missing part can prevent extraction. See step 1.
Do I need a Square Enix account or retail subscription?
No. You do NOT need a Square-Enix account. Your CaitsithXI login is separate from a retail account. For a fresh client, the LandSandBoat setup guide describes establishing official update access through a retail or trial route. The official client download alone does not include a retail registration code. Server-specific client build requirements will be confirmed on the contact page.
Ashita reports a missing DLL or VCRUNTIME / MSVCP error.
Install or repair the Microsoft Visual C++ x86 redistributable required by Ashita and xiloader, then relaunch. For DirectX component errors, check the DirectX June 2010 runtime in Ashita’s requirements. Avoid downloading individual DLLs from third-party DLL sites.
My launcher profile or shortcut won’t open.
Check the guide for your launcher: Ashita v3 GUI, Ashita v4 INI and shortcut, or Windower XML. These use different profile formats. Confirm the chosen profile points to your actual xiloader location, and show file extensions to catch .ini.txt or .exe.exe mistakes.
I can’t connect, or the connection times out.
First confirm you completed the xiloader step and that your launcher points to the new executable. Use --server caitsithxi.com with no https:// or trailing path. Check your internet connection and the server status page. Live monitoring is coming soon; until connected, that page cannot confirm an outage. If it persists, record the exact error, time, loader version, and login stage in a bug report.
I see “wrong version number” or an SSL handshake error.
An incompatible loader can cause this on newer LandSandBoat builds. Download the xiloader version compatible with the server and check that your launcher’s executable path points to that executable. Replacing a file in a different folder won’t update the one your profile launches. See the loader step and the upstream compatibility note.
I can log in, but disconnect while entering the world.
This happens after authentication. Note the error number, character, and zone, then check server status. Client/server versions, character state, or world-server networking may need investigation. Do not delete the character to troubleshoot. Prepare a bug report or use the contact page.
The game opens to a black screen or closes immediately.
Open FINAL FANTASY XI Config, save a conservative windowed configuration, and retry. Check DirectPlay and the DirectX / VC++ downloads. Try a clean launcher profile without optional addons or graphics wrappers. If xiloader alone also fails, record the exact error on the bug-report page or use contact.
How do I create an account?
Finish your chosen launcher path and connect with xiloader without saved credentials. Choose Create new account if offered, then follow its prompts. If registration is unavailable, use the contact page. Website account creation is not connected yet.
My username or password isn’t accepted.
Try interactive login without saved arguments. Check the server account name; retail credentials do not apply. Follow the current loader’s length limits. If login still fails, use contact rather than repeatedly creating new accounts. Never include your password in an issue report.
Can I save my password or create a desktop shortcut?
Yes, after your first successful login. Follow your launcher’s section: Ashita v3 Command field, Ashita v4 INI, or Windower XML. Saved user/pass arguments are readable locally. Keep profiles private, and remove those arguments for manual login.
Can I reset my password, rename a character, or change race here?
These website tools are not available yet. They are candidates for a later phase once the site’s design is approved and authenticated server integration is designed. No account or character changes can be submitted from this website.
What are the level cap, rates, expansions, and server rules?
The level cap is 99, the EXP rate is unchanged, and all mobs drop additional gil. All expansions are enabled except the add-on scenarios. There is zero tolerance for harassment or abuse of the game or server. See About & contact for the rules and server overview.
Are custom commands and shops available?
There are custom LandSandBoat commands for shops, travel unlocks, trusts, skillups, and support jobs. Which commands are live, and any restrictions are listed in game with help commands available that list all custom commands.
How do I report an issue without exposing my account?
Note the exact error, when it happened, what you were doing, and your client, launcher, and xiloader versions. Include whether xiloader alone works. Remove passwords and saved login arguments from screenshots and files. Use the bug-report tool to send a formatted report to support@caitsithxi.com.
